Female torso, Japan, Yayoi period (2nd century BC - 3rd century AD) H. 9 cm. Terracotta The symbols of female fertility are treated in the most essential way, the two breasts are marked by two small points, the rounded hips, the navel, the round belly, a large incised rectangle indicates the pubis. The precise role of these statuettes is not well known, although they were most probably used and broken during rites related to fertility. Provenance: 2001-2022.
