Bodhisattva bust, China, Eastern Wei dynasty (534-650) H. 26.5 cm. Yellow marble The Bodhisattva is richly adorned, wearing several necklaces, a belt and a tiara whose ribbons fall on either side of his head. The nimbus around his head is particularly elaborate and inspired by contemporary Indian Gupta productions (4th-6th century) from the Sarnath region. The same tangle of undulating lotus scrolls can be found. The string of pearls at the periphery of the disc is also comparable. Provenance: 2002-2022.
