Unicorn, Eastern Han Dynasty China (206 BC - 220 AD), Gansu, Wuwei District H. 31 cm - L. 70 cm. Wood (spruce), traces of polychromy. The different elements of the body were carved separately and assembled. The role of this fabulous animal was to guard and protect the tomb of the deceased. The posture of the body, horn and legs raised, gives dynamism and ferocity to the animal about to charge. Provenance: 2001-2022.
