Charcoal drawing, watercolor and white gouache highlights, signed with a pen at the bottom left. 37 x 25 cm. Biography: Known for his battle paintings, Adolphe Yvon married around 1835 in Rome Henriette Edmée Vernet (1812-1855), becoming the son-in-law of painter Horace Vernet. Widowed, it was from his second marriage to Eugénie Rambaud in July 1856 that his son, the architect Maurice Yvon (1857-1911), was born. Related work: Our Hunter on Horseback is a study for the famous painting depicting Marshal Ney in the rear guard of the army. Our man is represented on the left side of the work, protected by a cart.
