Description

POMMIER with back and belt upholstered in black patina wood and gilded, it rests on feet with lion claws decorated with a palmette. It is marked with red stencil: F1295, (under the first Empire) Empire period In black stencil F 1476, F 401 and the double F 1103 (under the second Empire) and the iron mark of the Palace of Fontainebleau under the Restoration. It has a handwritten label "Fontainebleau, bedroom of S.M. The Emperor". Height : 93 cm 93 cm ; Width : 110 cm ; Depth : 70 cm Sofa with three backs said apple tree, or "paumier" of which we find the mention in the periodical "magasin des modes nouvelles françaises et anglaises" on April 30, 1787 is reproduced and captioned "sopha with three backs, otherwise called sopha in apple tree" "This piece of furniture is put in winter in a bedroom near the fire to read or rest. This piece of furniture is in the latest taste." Jacob-Desmalter refers to it as a "tête à tête" or "dormeuse" in his memoirs. CF.
