Description

ALPHONSE LALAUZE (1872 - 1941) "Entry of the French in Brussels on November 14, 1792 Gouache Signed and dated 1937 lower left 18,5 x 23 cm Preparatory work for the painting (80 x 100 cm) exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1937. The overall composition is the same, but several changes have been made in the color of some uniforms, the hussar on the left has moved to the right, the lead officer is younger ... The scene depicts the entry into Brussels of the young and disparate French revolutionary army, led by Dumouriez, one week after the victory at Jemmapes; the troops march through the Grand-Place, with the guild houses (built in the late 17th century) in the background.
