Edouard Hostein (Pléhédel, Côtes d'Armor, 1804 -Paris, 1889) Landscape with shepherd Oil on paper mounted on canvas 38 x 61 cm Signed lower right In a beautiful gilded frame from the early 19th century A bank employee, Edouard Hostein first worked as an illustrator before becoming a painter in his own right. He collaborated with Charles Nodier and Baron Taylor for their famous series of romantic works on ancient France. As a travelling painter, he exhibited numerous landscapes of France, Belgium, Italy and Switzerland at the Paris Salon between 1833 and 1859. The views always perfectly executed that he realized in the surroundings of Paris, in Alsace, in Normandy, in the Lyonnais, in Auvergne, in Brittany, near Toulon, etc. make him one of the best witnesses of the romantic France.
