Henri MARTIN, 1860-1943 The Green at Labastide du Vert in late winter oil on canvas, signed lower left 107 x 85 cm. ATTENTION: PRIOR REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED TO BID ON THIS LOT A certificate from Mr Cyrille Martin will be given to the buyer Le Vert just downstream from Labastide du Vert: the village is just behind the painter. At the corner of the hills behind the central willow tree, at the bottom of the valley, is the village of Castelfranc where this small river flows into the Lot. Henri Martin returned more than ten times to paint this corner of the river. The hill on the left is part of his property. If you turn a few degrees to the left, you can see his studio, which he had built in the style of a pigeon house with a view of the valley, and if you turn 30 degrees in the same direction, you can see his house on the hill, Marquayrol. Marie-Anne DESTREBECQ-MARTIN Labastide du Vert was Henri Martin's favorite place: he spent every spring there from 1900 until his death in 1943. The house overlooks the village of Labastide and the river Vert flows peacefully under a bridge. The artist's studio is located even higher, facing a breathtaking panorama.
