Giambattista TIEPOLO, School of. Seventeen heads. Drawings. 9 sheets, each of mm. 222x154. Black pencil on strong gray-blue laid paper. Sign of dampstain on the margins that does not affect the drawings. It is a study of the Banquet in Levi's house carried out in the workshop of Giambattista Tiepolo, by Francesco Lorenzi or by Costantino Cedini. The nine sheets, coming from a dismembered album with a trace of numbering in pencil, depict heads of the different characters in the Veronese painting, with different angles and perspectives. Eight sheets bear the designs on the front and back.

ALLEGRINI, Francis. Christ at the Column. Drawing.1624-1684 Sheet of mm. 126x97. Pen drawing, brown ink. At the bottom an ancient inscription, pasted on the upper part on cardboard. Good conditions. In the scene, the Christ in the center is surrounded by several characters, the two floggers and others who observe. Allegrini was a freshman, painter and prolific draftsman: his works testify to great versatility, ranging from religious and allegorical subjects to historical and mythological themes. He painted mainly for palaces and churches in Rome. His works are also present in Gubbio, Savona and Genoa, where he worked for the Durazzo and Pamphili. Numerous drawings attributed to Allegrini are preserved in various public collections, including the Stadtbibliothek in Leipzig, the Metropolitan Museum and the Louvre.

VECCHI, John. Preparatory drawing for an altarpiece. C. 1536-1614 Sheet of mm. 267x176. Drawing pasted on cardboard, pen with sepia ink. Two collection stamps: H. K. Lempertz Collection, Lugt 1337; Robert Udny Collection, Lugt 2248. Good condition. The drawing shows the vision of an important altarpiece, probably to be performed on commission from a monastery. Above the Madonna and Child, a little further down, on both sides, two saints, in the background a crowd of monks and saints. At the center of the scene is a splendid perspective view of a city in central Italy. The design was part of two authoritative collections, to which Lugt dedicates flattering notes.

Oblong folio, 255x384 mm. Original binding in wallet, red percaline, illustrations in black and white and gilt title on the front cover. Titlepage in red and black, 30 numbered plates, free sheets in grey cardboard. The illustrations, on different sizes, are photogravures glued on the sheets. Little rip on the inner margin of the titlepage, overall very nice condition.Rare edition. According to Toole-Stoot, the circus bibliographer, this is the only edition. In 30 plates are illustrated, by the painter J. G. Prestel, 1804 - 1885, the misadventures on horseback of Count Sándor: each plate is accompanied by descriptive caption. The subtitle states that Prestel accompanied the count, legendary horseman, for 12 years.
