Jean-Philippe FACKLER Colonel of the Engineers and benefactor of the Sélestat Library and Museum in Strasbourg, Alsace. Jean-Philippe Fackler was born in Paris in 1893. He returned to Saint-Cyr before the outbreak of the First World War, when he volunteered to serve on the Northern Front. Seriously wounded, he was sent to Switzerland for medical treatment. He recovered and returned to the University of Lausanne on October 24, 1917. When the war was over, he was posted to the 1st Engineer Regiment. Jean-Philippe Fackler came to prominence for his writings, in particular on the "Laws of Compression in Air Compressors" in 1929. After the Second World War, Jean-Philippe Fackler was appointed Director of the Centre Scientifique et Technique du Bâtiment. During his lifetime, Jean-Philippe Fackler was awarded the Legion of Honor, the Croix de Guerre (14-18) and the Croix de Guerre (39-45). He died in Paris in 1965. The lot we are presenting covers the life of Jean-Philippe Fackler (1911-1959). It includes his student papers (card and prize), and his business card when he was appointed director of the Centre Scientifique et Technique du Bâtiment. A scientific notebook with photographs (30) and handwritten captions, showing the replacement of wooden poles by reinforced concrete pylons for the electricity network, and the completed substations/plants in the towns of Avaux, Saint Brice and Vrigny in September 1939. We have also included a number of photographs, including a portrait of Jean-Philippe Fackler as a young man, and portraits of him and his young wife. Jean-Philippe Fackler in WW1 and WW2 uniform, group portraits of his regiment, and photographs of his scientific work.
