count de MONTLOSIER (Clermont-Ferrand 1755-1838) politician and publicist, deputy of the nobility in 1789, he emigrated, and was peer of France under the Restoration; he fought against ultramontanism and the Jesuits. L.A.S., Clermont April 23, 1816, to François GUIZOT, then secretary general at the Ministry of Justice; 1 1/2 pages in-4, address with red wax seal of arms. "By deploring [...] with you and with everybody the embarrassment of your situation, in the middle of so many solicitations, recommendations and denunciations, I cannot help but take in my turn a corner in this crowd, and to bring you at the same time my prayers and my complaints. My complaints concern the most absurd justice of the peace that one can invent in the world and that you have placed in the canton of Pontgibaud (Puy-de-Dôme)", Beauvert, "a former banker bookseller, chased out of the prefecture of Clermont [...] because of swindling, and moreover inept, unfit". Then he praises Morin, justice of the peace of the canton of Saint-Amand, "who marked in the bad times as a royalist". Then he congratulates Guizot on his "deliverance from the assembly", wonders about the retreat of M. de Vaublanc... "we are now in a variable season where the flowers of one day are covered with snow the next day. The atmosphere is in a floating and undecided state. Would it be the same with the atmosphere of the Thileries. [...] I am happy, in spite of his disadvantage, with my young friend BARANTE. He goes straight ahead, with a carelessness of his enemies, noble, bitter elevated"...
