ANDRÉ JUILLARD PLUME AUX VENTS, Dargaud 2004 Original cover of the integral. Signed. India ink and watercolor on paper 28.8 × 38.8 cm (11.34 × 15.28 in.) This cover is typical of André Juillard's art: first, in its treatment, an elegant, pure, perfect Ligne Claire, where the line vibrates with sensuality; second, in its composition, set on a horizon line, each oblique pointing to the group of characters skilfully detached against the gray background of the rocky mass; and third, in its color, luminous, transparent, airy. In the firmament, a bird in turn suggests speed, pulling the wing in the same direction as these two runners light as elves. Everything about this cover makes it clear: this is Juillard in his purest form. For Plume aux vents, I was hoping for a lot of action. This cover, one of my favorites, which does not evoke any scene from the four albums, is my revenge on a scenario that was not eventful enough for my taste. I wanted to highlight the athletic bodies of Ariane and her beautiful companion. André Juillard
