GRZEGORZ ROSINSKI THORGAL The Three Old Men of the Land of Aran (T.3), Le Lombard 1981 Original plate n° 9 prepublished in the Journal de Tintin n° 201 of July 17, 1979. India ink on paper 36 × 46.8 cm (14.17 × 18.43 in.) This is a wonderful and rare silent plate, where Thorgal tries to enter by night the castle where the Benevolent Ones are holding his young wife Aaricia. Impeccably structured by its luminous obliques - when they show the sky, and black when they describe the depth of the moat - the plate shows Thorgal's silent approach to the ramparts. It is worth noting that, as a good observer, Rosinski draws the night with a clear sky, unlike the bad artists who usually depict it in black. It is indeed the landscape buried in the night that remains in shadow. Another piece of bravery: Thorgal is shown in the penultimate panel, swimming slightly in low angle (it's the case to say it), seen from the front. This kind of shortcut is relatively difficult to achieve. Not for Rosinski, who is an outstanding draftsman.
