ROSTAND (Edmond). La Samaritaine. Paris, Librairie Charpentier et Fasquelle, 1897. In-8, red morocco decorated with a mosaic composition on the first cover representing the Samaritan woman's jar with floral motifs, light blue morocco lining decorated with a spectacular polychrome and gilt mosaic composition with Art Nouveau floral motifs, brocaded silk endpapers, double marbled paper endpapers, cover illustrated by Mucha preserved, untrimmed, gilt edges on witnesses, case (P. Ruban 1901). First edition, with a cover illustrated by Mucha. This play was first performed at the Théâtre de la Renaissance in Paris on April 14, 1897 with Sarah Bernhardt in the role of Photine. Edition at 25 copies on Japon, this one n° 11, with 2 states of the cover by Mucha : before all letters and in the final state. Unique copy enriched with 10 original watercolors by Adolphe Giraldon, signed or monogrammed, dated 1898, including: a large watercolor on the false title, a large floral composition framing the title page, a full-page composition representing Christ, and 7 compositions in the body of the text as headbands or caps.
