It was the presence in Paris of a black albino child who was exhibited in the salons that gave Maupertuis (Saint-Malo 1698-Basel 1759) the opportunity to write this work on the question of generation, which had a great impact. The question of the "white negro" is a pretext for the development of important considerations on the double heredity of father and mother. He opposed the theory of the preformation of the embryo, which was then in vogue, and contributed important elements to the science of genetics, which he developed in the Physical Venus in 1745.
