Beautiful portrait of Turenne, engraved by Larmessin after Meissonier, large fleuron with the arms of Turenne on the titles, 7 large vignettes on the head and 4 culs-de-lampe by Bonnard engraved by Scotin, and 13 double-page plans of battles. Henri de La Tour d'Auvergne, viscount of Turenne (1611-1675), marshal of France, in the service of Louis XIII and then of Louis XIV, was one of the greatest French men of war. He was killed by a cannonball at the battle of Sasbach. A lacy morocco copy with the arms of Count Henri de Calenberg (1685-1772), chamberlain of the emperor and bibliophile, who had assembled a fine library in Brussels that was dispersed in 1773 (Guigard, Nouvel armorial du bibliophile, t. II, p. 108). From the library of the Château de Serrant, with a stamp in pink ink on the false titles. Some yellowed leaves, faded portrait. Spine a little faded.
