Garnier, 1735. 2 volumes in-4, blue morocco, small right gilt lace around the boards, coat of arms in the center, spine decorated, red title and fawn tomaison, the latter decorated at the four corners with an alérion, inner lace, gilt edges on marble (Binding of the time). First edition. Beautiful portrait of Turenne, engraved by Larmessin after Meissonier, large fleuron with the arms of Turenne on the titles, 7 large vignettes on the head and 4 culs-de-lampe by Bonnard engraved by Scotin, and 13 double-page plans of battles. Henri de La Tour d'Auvergne, viscount of Turenne (1611-1675), marshal of France, in the service of Louis XIII and then of Louis XIV, was one of the greatest French men of war. He was killed by a cannonball at the battle of Sasbach. A lacy morocco copy with the arms of Count Henri de Calenberg (1685-1772), chamberlain of the emperor and bibliophile, who had assembled a fine library in Brussels that was dispersed in 1773 (Guigard, Nouvel armorial du bibliophile, t. II, p. 108). From the library of the Château de Serrant, with a stamp in pink ink on the false titles. Some yellowed leaves, faded portrait. Spine a little faded.
