Description

France, Third Republic (1870-1940). Képi-foulard model 1886 of a Commander of the 2nd Engineers of Metz. Cap and turban in fine black woolen cloth. The cap is bordered by a soutache and decorated with a double-stranded golden Hungarian knot. Four horizontal and three vertical rank brackets on the sides and back in gold trimmings. On the front of the cap, number 2 embroidered gold cannetille. Visor in black patent leather and bordered by a black leather rush, the underside lined with a green waxed leather. False chinstrap in flat gold braid and chinstrap with slide in black patent leather of great dress, introduced in 1881, and retained by two small buttons in gold metal stamped with the pattern of the body. Brown silk inner headpiece with gilded iron marking of the manufacturer, partly legible "LIAND Boulevard Sébastopol 98 Paris" and sweatband in tan leather. Complete. Worn. (wear and patina of time, good condition).
