Description

France, Second Empire (1852-1870). Helmet of the Guard of Paris model 1849/53. Steel minerva-shaped helmet with small shocks and traces of oxidation (presence of former tin repairs). Steel visor and nape cover lined with basanes (later, style) and bordered on the perimeter of a brass ring (presence of two modern sheet metal screws used to attach the ring to the bomb under each rosette of the chinstraps). The brass ring of the neckband is stamped "438". Brass headband and rim band stamped with a radiating sun with an uncrowned imperial eagle head to the left in the center, resting on a spindle of Jupiter with lightning bolts and surmounting a banner inscribed "GARDE DE PARIS" (minor old restorations to the pewter at the eagle). Crest in stamped brass, fixed on the bomb with eight screws (4 x 2), the mask stamped with acanthus leaves, the fins stamped with seven drops of water of decreasing oval shape, framed with smaller drops of water and corollas of foliage, partly decorated with a twisted molding. The "rain screen" protecting the top of the crest without decoration, the mane absent. The eagle holder is present with black hair puff. The brass pencil holder on the left side of the bomb is present and in the model of the Garde de Paris. Pair of chinstraps with brass curb chains in the shape of "8" interlaced mounted on black leather chinstraps and their rosettes with radiating center in brass (later chinstraps, old reproductions of quality). The interior of the bomb is painted with old aluminum paint. 31 cm (without the holder and the mane). (inner cap missing, helmet restored early, in the state).
