Description

France, Louis-Philippe (1830-1848). Helmet of Cuirassier troop model 1845. Minerva-shaped steel helmet with gutter, oxidized orange peel, stamped on the back "324" and numbered "42", visor and nape-cover in steel sheet lined with basanes, green for the visor and black for the nape (later basanes reconstituted) and bordered on the circumference of a brass ring, the rear ring is stamped with the marking "Recuis" (presence of small old repairs made with tin on the rings). Turban covered with a band of marine cow (later, style) laced on the back with four pairs of metal eyelets. Stamped brass crest, the mask stamped with a flaming bomb topped by a jellyfish head with a wreath of laurel and oak branches above (reused by firefighters, hole for fixing a caterpillar present above the jellyfish head repaired with tin formerly), and the fins stamped with eight gadroons of decreasing shape, underlined with pearls and framed with acanthus leaves and palmettes, the "rain screen" protecting the top of the crest is present and without decoration (probably reported). The eaglet holder is present with a black mane. The mane in black hair is reported, with an apparent length of about 70 cm. The brass pencil holder with foliage decoration on the left side of the bomb is present. Pair of chinstraps with brass curb chains in the shape of "8" interlaced mounted on black leather chinstraps and their rosettes with radiating brass center (pairs of chinstraps and rosettes later, very well reconstructed). Inner leather cap cut in wolf's teeth, reported and posterior. 31.5 cm (without the aigrette holder). (complete helmet, formerly restored, with some later elements well reconstituted, in the state).
