DOGON, Mali. Wood, natural polychrome pigments. Kanaga" dance mask used by members of the Awa society, particularly during the ceremonies of the dama cult of the dead. Evoking the creator God Amma, it represents a stylized human face surmounted by a double cross superstructure symbolizing the "Kommolo Tebu". 1st half of the 20th century. Height : 91 cm. Width : 41,5 cm. Small old missing parts. Provenance : Private collection, Versailles.
