Important cartel in Boulle marquetry of engraved copper on a brown tortoiseshell and blackened oak background. Ornamentation of chased and gilded bronzes with the allegory of the Peace between Spain and France, represented by two women with the collar of the Golden Fleece and the Order of the Holy Spirit. Recalling the Treaty of the Pyrenees of 1659, sealing the marriage of King Louis XIV. The base of the lamp with four openwork consoles in double scroll applied masks, in the center a column engaged with stylized flutes and foliage, falls and bases applied rings. The cartel resting on feet in volutes, the upper angles decorated with four terms. The dial 12 pieces of enamel, the door decorated with the allegory surrounded by mantling. The whole surmounted by Minerva. The movement signed MIJNUEL in PARIS. Model to be compared with the works of André Charles BOULLE. Louis XIV period (accidents, lifts, modified escapement). Height : 150 cm - Width : 66 cm - Depth : 30 cm Our cartel was probably executed to celebrate the thirty years of the treaty of the Pyrenees celebrating the peace between France and Spain sealed in 1659, year of the marriage of the young King with Maria Theresa.
