Granite bas-relief representing a king in profile on the right, dressed in a loincloth, adorned with the uraeus and a large collar, in an offering position facing a figure whose hand can be seen holding a stick. The scene is surmounted by hieroglyphic characters [...ALL JOY...] (breaks). Ptolemaic period, 3rd-2nd century B.C. Height : 60 cm 60 cm - Width : 40 cm Bears an ancient label "From the temple of Begbed" on the back. Rosewood base signed Kichizô Inakagi (1876-1951) . Provenance : Iseum (temple of Isis) in Behbeit el-Hagara, now destroyed and of which some elements are in the Vatican. Comparative bibliography: Christine Favard-Meeks, Le Temple de Behbeit el Hagara, 1991, Pl. XXXV, SAE 112. Provenance: Collection of Mr. Paul A. (1899-1976), former director of the Chalcographie du Louvre, founder then president of the Presses Universitaires de France from 1934 to 1968. Noted "ach. 1937," on a handwritten slip. Accompanied by a declaration on honour from the collector's daughter-in-law confirming that the object comes from her father-in-law's collection.
