Set of two autographed letters …
Description

Raoul DUFY (Le Havre 1877-1953) Painter. Set of two autographed letters addressed to Mr. Etienne Bignou, Raoul Dufy's first art dealer, concerning the progress of his work. In the first one, addressed from Chinon, on a Monday, the painter evokes his work of "transforming the castles of the Loire into watercolors... But it is a crime to conceal so much beauty and to summarize in sketches in colors these magnificent landscapes... I would almost be disgusted". In the second, addressed from Vence, on April 28 (1937), he evokes, of course, these works, but also his moments of rest in Vence or Venice "but this under the seal of secrecy, absolutely between us, so as not to upset the people who demand my work", and hopes to sell a painting to the Basel Museum. 4 pages in-4.
