Autograph letter signed by Baudelaire ad…
Description

Charles BAUDELAIRE (1821-1867). Autograph letter signed by Baudelaire addressed to the publisher Michel Levy, from his lodging at 22 rue d'Amsterdam, in November 1863. Baudelaire has just sold the rights of his translation of Edgar Poe's works to Michel Levy, which he will later bitterly regret. He complains, as he often does, about the sloppy work of the publisher's proofreader, especially in writing Poe's name and his own "I have just realized that in spite of my ardent, repeated entreaties, in spite of my letters, corrections and recommendations, your proofreader has written Edgar Poë instead of Edgar Poe." However, he thanks his interlocutor for the five copies that the latter has agreed to, and that he will have himself stapled "by someone careful that I have found". The letter forms a page and a half, in-12.
