Description

PAUL LOUIS BEAUMONT (1863-1936). "Mexican still life". Oil on canvas. Signed in the lower left corner. Size: 92 x 73 cm. In this still life the artist, resorts to a costumbrista look as for the conception of the painting, since he uses resources or elements that are characteristic of a very concrete way of the Mexican culture. The charro hat in the foreground, the cactus, the food in the basket, and even the ornamentation of the cloth closing the space on the left of the scene are all motifs that refer to this culture. However, this interest in capturing the "Mexican" is not only reflected in the elements of the scene, but also in the intensity and expressiveness of the chromatic range used by the artist. Colours that are relaxed with the large white canvas that acts as a base for the main objects in the scene.
