Description

JAAP WIJNSOUW (The Netherlands, 1909 - The Hague, The Netherlands, 1970). Untitled, 1937. Oil on canvas. Signed and dated in the upper left area. Size: 33 x 27 cm. Compositionally this work follows a classical aesthetic in still life painting. The main element in the centre, and a neutral background that allows to enhance the corporeality of the objects that make up the scene. However, it is interesting to note the blue doll in the foreground and the main vase with a stem on which no flowers are preserved. Two elements that point to the modernity of the image and create a certain uncertainty close to the common images created in the current of magical realism, where, despite proposing a realistic aesthetic, discordant elements far removed from everyday life were introduced.
