ANTONIO CAÑETE SÁNCHEZ (Málaga, 1909-1974) "Malaga landscape". Oil on canvas. Signed in the lower right corner. Period frame. Measurements: 161 x 66 cm; 174 x 80,5 cm (frame). Painter of Malaga school. He obtained a scholarship of studies in Rome. On his return to Spain he developed a fruitful teaching work in the School of Arts and Artistic Crafts of his native city, of which he ended up being appointed director. He immortalised the Malaga landscape and rural life, and is also remembered for a number of genre paintings. His work is in the Malaga municipal collection. In this vertical landscape with its rich palette of bright, summery colours, we can make out an Andalusian village of whitewashed houses, harmoniously arranged on the hillside of the valley. In the foreground, the stylised crown of a young tree boldly frames the scene.
