Luis Granite y Tejada was known, above all, for his skill in painting still lifes with floral themes. His roses and carnations, such as those in the present pair of panels, are particularly prized. The large corollas, with their silky petals, exude an almost tactile and aromatic sensuality. Beyond the floral theme, his work was very extensive and somewhat varied, with landscape painting as another of the main genres of his work, but with a clear approach to the aesthetic novelties brought by the pictorial avant-gardes of his time.
