Volume I, 1st part : An illustrated title, XLVI pages (of which false-title and title illustrated with 2 small engraved vignettes), 72 pages, 61 plates hors-texte, (1) f. of table of contents - Volume I, 2nd part : (2) ff. of false-title and title illustrated with an engraved vignette, 73-132 pages (table of contents included), 76 plates hors-texte - Volume II, 1st part : (2) ff. of false-title and title illustrated with a large engraved vignette, XLV pages, 33 pages, 79 plates out of text, (1) f. of table of contents - Volume II, 2nd part : (2) ff. of false-title and title illustrated with two small engraved vignettes, XCI pages, 38 pages including table of contents, 55 plates out of text. Darkening at the head of a part of the leaves of the 2nd part of volume I, scattered foxing, missing at the head of the spine of 3 volumes, one spine completely cracked, cracks at some spines. ORIGINAL EDITION of this "magnificent work" (Brunet), the most important published in the 19th century on Spain. It contains in the FRONT PAGE of volume I a general illustrated title, 271/272 off-text plates of engravings drawn and engraved on steel by the greatest artists of the time and 2 double maps of Spain and Portugal. [MISSING the portrait and 1 hors-texte plate]. Published in 48 issues during 14 years, this work is often incomplete of a part of the plates.
