Nantes: Émile Grimaud et fils, [1900]. - In-4, 268 x 177: (6 ff.), 133 pp. (2 ff. last blank), 4 plates, printed and embossed cover. Green morocco, framed on the boards with two black morocco scrolls, the one on the first board ending in the upper left corner with stylized leaves and flowers in black and gray morocco, ribbed spine decorated in the same spirit, brown morocco lining decorated with a frame of gilded and mosaic filleting and wavy motifs, mauve moiré silk endpapers, double endpapers, gilt edges on witnesses, cover preserved, slipcase (Marius Michel). Original edition of only 220 copies on Arches vellum, illustrated with 59 figures drawn, engraved and printed by Auguste LEPÈRE (1849-1918), including a double-page etching in bistre, 4 out-of-text etchings, and 54 woodcuts in the text. Nominative copy, number 61, specially printed for Henri Beraldi, to which the following items have been attached: - suite of 4 hors-texts in the second state on Arches laid paper, signed by Lepère, - second state proof on chine of the last hors-texte, signed by the artist, - 2 original signed drawings by Lepère depicting two views of Nantes, mounted at the head. The second has an unfinished sketch on the reverse, - state proof on japon nacré of the wood on page 5, bearing this dedication from the publisher: "offert à Madame Courboin // en souvenir de son court séjour // à Nantes // 24 juillet 1901 // A. Lotz-Brissonneau". - state proof on japon pelure of the wood on page 25, captioned in pencil. The last three pieces were added after the Beraldi sale. A superb copy in lined binding by Marius Michel. Spine slightly faded. Provenance: Henri Beraldi (IV, 1935, no. 161).
