ATTRIBUÉ À JACQUES DUBOIS (1694 - 1763)

Rare secretary in corner with Chinese lacquer panels, increased with a rich decoration painted in gold on black background. It opens with two leaves whose interior is in French varnish in the Chinese manner. The leaves reveal a flap veneered with a Chinese lacquer panel with a pagoda, the writing top is in red leather. Two interior side panels framing five drawers reveal an inkwell. The faces of the five drawers are in Chinese lacquer. The flap rests on a retractable pull, lined with blue velvet. The uprights of the furniture are extended by curved feet and joined by a low curved crosspiece. Rich ornamentation of chiseled and gilded bronzes of curved forms. Top of marble breche d'Alep molded in beak of corbin. Louis XV period, around 1750. Height : 116 cm - Width : 102 cm Depth : 72 cm (Accidents and restorations of use) Jacques Dubois is one of the greatest Parisian cabinet makers of the reign of Louis XV, received master in 1742, he realized a significant number of furniture, always of great quality, showing rigor in the selection of his veneers and in the choice of the bronze workers with whom he collaborated. Like his colleagues, he used lacquer or varnish panels. For his richest pieces, he used lacquer panels directly from China or Japan, which considerably increased the cost of the furniture.
