TEA CADDIES in sheet metal painted and lacquered with gold Chinese decorations on an olive green background. Late 18th, early 19th century. Height : 33 cm - Width : 20 cm Depth : 15 cm (Rare accidents) It is in the 17th century that the tea trade begins. Transported in wooden crates, the tea was then packaged mostly in tin. Europeans made a wide range of boxes of various shapes and sizes and in different materials such as ivory, silver metal, lacquer or painted sheet metal. In the 18th century, these boxes were decorated with Chinese scenes, depicting pagodas, birds and lake landscapes.
