OCTOGONAL VASE in porcelain and blue-white enamels, decorated with a young tiger resting under a large longevity pine and a deer approaching. The vase is adorned with a small, slightly flared neck. (Firing flaws, cracks) Korea, Choseon period, 18th-19th centuries. A BLUE AND WHITE TIGER AND PINE DECORATED OCTAGONAL PORCELAIN VASE, KOREA, 18TH-19TH CENTURY. HEIGHT. 33,5 CM (13 3/16 IN.) NOTE Tigers appear frequently in nineteenth-century Korean art, including ceramics, lacquer, and painting. Although a symbol of strength and ferocity, the animal is often depicted with a humorous and expressive face, as on this blue-white vase. Here, a single tiger sits meekly by a pine tree.
