MANDEVARE Alphonse-Nicolas-Michel (1759 - Paris 1829) : " Landscape of countryside in the outskirts of a city crossed by a river, with ancient and medieval ruins, and, in the foreground a couple under a tree ". Gouache on vellum. Marouflé on canvas. Signed lower right Mandevare. H. 38 - L. 64 cm. Restoration frame in wood and gilded stucco with acanthus leaves (missing and damaged). On Alphonse Nicolas Michel, landscape painter, author of the Principes raisonnés du paysage (Paris 1804), who exhibited at the Salon from 1798, and whose several studies are kept in the Cabinet des dessins of the Louvre museum, we refer to the Dictionnaire des peintres Paysagistes Français au XIXe siècle by Lydia Harambourg (Ides et Calendes 1985).
