Description

ALECHINSKY Pierre (Born in Saint-Gilles-lez-Bruxelles (Belgium) in 1927) - "Central Park II". 1976. Etching and lithograph printed in colors. From the series of four plates "Central Park" made after the theme of the famous painting of the artist who represents Central Park as a monster devouring everyone who enters his domain. Nice proof on wove paper, numbered 34 from an edition at 100 and signed in grey pencil by the artist. Pierre Alechinsky, Belgian painter and engraver, combines in his work expressionism and surrealism. The first work that the artist painted in this way is a colored image in the center and small images around it called "Central Park". Pierre Alechinsky says that he made it while observing the paths, rocks and lawns of Central Park from his 35th floor New York studio. From above, he thought the park looked like a monster's mouth. He then decided to add drawings around it to tell the story of the disturbing things that happen at night around the park. The artist thus inaugurated the painting "with marginal remarks". 49 x 65,5 cm. Condition A (good state of conservation).
