REMBRANDT H. van Rijn (1606 1669) - "The small lion hunt, with one lion". c.1629. Original etching. Ref: Hind, no. 45. Bartsch, no. 116. New Hollstein, n°29. Proof of a unique state, on watermarked laid paper (small coat of arms). At the time, hunting wild animals on horseback was considered to be the noble hunt par excellence. In 20 years, Rembrandt engraved three scenes of lion hunts; the present one, as well as another small plate, both placed around 1629, and a more developed version of the subject dated 1641. 15.1 x 11.3 cm. Condition B (cut to the subject and formerly mounted by the upper corners on strong paper, a small print crease at the bottom left of the subject, rare light foxing on the reverse and some on the front).
