Pupil of Augustin de Saint Aubin, from whom he was to engrave some drawings, Duclos worked mainly as an engraver and illustrator. He made notably vignettes for the works of Ovid, Racine, Voltaire and Rousseau. During the Revolution, he made several engravings of current events, for example on the execution of Louis XVI.
