BÉJART.- KAYAERT (Robert). "Messe pour le temps présent" (1967). Superb set of nearly 300 black and white silver prints on baryta paper. Dim. photo : 26 x 20 cm. Stamp on the back of the prints. About forty contact sheets and press articles from the presentation of the piece at the Avignon Festival are attached. This set shows the dancers (Jorge Donn, Laura Proença...), in rehearsal and on stage, for this suite of dances entitled "Messe pour le temps présent" (Mass for the present time), dedicated to Patrick Belda, Laura Proença's husband, who was the victim of a car accident from which the prima ballerina miraculously escaped unscathed. Robert Kayaert (1920-2007) became famous as a sports photographer, official photographer of Expo 58, of the Queen Elisabeth Competition and of the Béjart ballets. The artistic encounter between the choreographer and the photographer was a fusion. Robert Kayaert will weave for twenty years the visual memory of the ballets of the 20th century.
