GIACOMO GUARDI (1764-1835), attribué
Venice, veduta of the Church of the Salute
Oil on canvas.
Dimensions: 21.5 x 17.5 cm
Venetian painter, son of the famous Francesco Guardi, he continued the work of his father in the style of veduta. His paintings, often small in size, have a great atmospheric charm and are of great historical value. Giacomo Guardi continued the ideas of the great tradition of Venetian Baroque art at a time when neoclassicism and romanticism prevailed. Nevertheless, his scenes of Venice also have neoclassical and romantic elements. His work will thus remain as a fascinating embodiment of this historical transition.
