EMILE GALLE (1846-1904)

Small vase soliflore In multi-layered glass with acid-etched floral decoration in shades of violet brown on a yellow-orange background. Signed Gallé. Dimensions : h. 19 cm Painter of genre, figures and still life, creator of furniture, figurehead of the Art Nouveau, he is especially one of the ceramists and master glassmakers most known in the world. Fascinated by glass decoration from a very young age, he studied art in Weimar and opened a glass factory in his native city in 1874 and the famous Ecole de Nancy, one of the origins of Art Nouveau. In addition to this inexhaustible passion for glass, Emile Gallé was also a very interesting painter and left behind some rare genre paintings and some very interesting still lifes.
