French painter born in the Haute-Vienne, he lived in Algiers for part of his childhood and discovered the sea there. He then moved to Limoges where he studied decorative arts while working as a painter in a porcelain factory. But it was after training in William Bougereau's studio that Paguenaud joined the navy, bringing back from his travels gouaches and drawings that he exhibited at the Indépendants.
