Portrait of Maharaja smoking the huqqa Polychrome pigments and gold on paper. North India, 19th century. (Some missing paint visible). 22 x 17.5 cm Provenance: French private collection, catalogued in the collection as acquired in June 1973 at Drouot The ruler smoking the huqqa is seated comfortably on a carpet with floral decoration, against a large gold embroidered cushion. He is adorned with a richly embroidered yellow robe and precious jewelry. Devanagari inscriptions, probably an identification or dedication, adorn the upper part of the painting and the red margin.
