Court scene Polychrome pigments and gold on paper. India, probably Sirohi, 17th - 18th century. (Minor alterations to the paint layer, visible wear). 27 x 22 cm Provenance : French private collection, catalogued in the collection as acquired in March 1980 at Drouot (expert Kevorkian). A Raja is enthroned in the courtyard of his palace, assisted by his attendants who fan him and bring him flowers. On the roof of the palace, with its flamboyant architecture, stand pavilions, cypress trees and a peacock. The scene is framed by yellow borders and red margins, with a cartouche in the upper part decorated with a two-line inscription in devanagari.
