Poëme sur la grâce P., 1722. Title, XIII, [1], 89, [1] pp. scattered spotting, mainly on first pages. Followed by GAULTIER - Basile et Quitterie P., Noël Pissot, 1723. 79, (1) pp., 1 f. First edition of this play inspired by Don Quixote. In-12, full speckled calf, double fillet framing the plates having received at the four corners the crowned figure of the duke of Valentinois. Spine with decorated nerves, title piece, figure at the foot. Binding with the figure of the Duke of Valentinois, (1689-1751). Jacques-François-Léonor de Goyon de Matignon, duke of Valentinois, (1689-1751), was lieutenant general of Normandy. Married to Louise de Grimaldi, he became prince of Monaco at the death of his father-in-law, but abdicated two years later in favor of his son, preferring to live at the court of Versailles and in his private hotel in Paris. Handwritten bookplate of the duke of Valentinois, dated 1722, on the title page of the Poëme sur la grace. This poem, a kind of exposé on Jansenism, is the first work of Louis Racine, second son, seventh and last child of Racine. His text appeared first at Coignard in 1720 before seeing its sale suspended. This resale in 1722, again at Coignard, is without mention of author.
