Wheeler-Gift 1422. ronalds 337. first edition. - Matteucci (1811-1868), professor of physics at the University of Pisa, was the first to conduct electrophysiological experiments. His famous work "Essai sur les phenomenes," published in 1840, prompted Emil du Bois Reymond, at the suggestion of Johannes Müller, to write his "Untersuchungen über thierische Electricität" (1848), which verified and deepened Matteucci's discovery of the potential difference between stimulated nerve and muscle and the "rheoscopic frog effect" described together with Alexander von Humboldt. The present work is also dedicated to A. von Humboldt. - Lightly spotted. The plates with smoothed box pleats, 1 fold repaired on the back.
