"Here the patient, who is in an insulated chair, or in certain cases in an electric, i.e. insulated, bed, is brought into conductive connection with the conductor of the machine; as long as the machine is kept in action, which usually lasts 1/4 to 1 hour, the patient is charged without subjectively perceiving anything special than, for instance, a slight bristling of the hair. An 'electric atmosphere' is created around him, the strength of which is measured by the deflection of a bead electrometer. The electric bath was applied as a positive and as a negative charge" (A.
