Ɵ The Entry of very great, very Christian, very magnanimous, and victorious prince. Henry IIII King of France & Navarre, in his good city of Lyon, on the IIII September in the year M.D.XCV. [...] Containing the order & description of the magnificences drawn up for this occasion. Lyon, De l'Imprimerie de Pierre Michel, s.d. [1595]. In-4, caramel morocco, triple gilt fillet, repeated number in sown on the boards, spine decorated with the repeated number, lining and endpapers of chocolate moire (Honegger). Very rare first edition, decorated with a beautiful copper engraved portrait of Henri IV and a double page plate, also engraved in intaglio, showing the long and brilliant procession passing under the decorated arches. The triumphal entry of Henri IV in Lyon on September 4, 1595, after the peace treaty of Vervins, gave place to grandiose celebrations. Pierre Matthieu (1563-1621), poet and lawyer in Lyon, secretary of the city, had been given the mission to organize the route and to write the verses and mottos appearing on the ephemeral monuments; he later became the King's historiographer. Engraved bookplate with the initials PR and the motto Notre-Dame protège la France et la lignée de nos rois, undetermined. Washed copy, bound by Honegger for the collector.
