First edition of this collection of encomiastical pieces and enigmas composed by Charles Fontaine (1515-after 1564), a Parisian poet established in Lyon. The list of the recipients of these pieces is long and was drawn up by Baudrier: one counts among them the poets Ronsard, Pontus de Tyard, Jean Dorat, Jacques Peletier, Joachim du Bellay, Rémi Belleau, various friends, the son of the author, the artist Pierre Woeiriot, the doctor Jacques Dalechamps, cardinals, great princes, princesses of France, etc. The work ends with an Exhortation to Messieurs de la Iustice & du Consulat de la ville de Lion, pour le bien & honneur, augmentation, & conservation d'icelle. Old handwritten bookplate on verso of last leaf. Insignificant marginal stain to a few leaves. Unwashed copy, bound with the arms and figure of the collector. J. P.
