First edition of this lyrical poem of 70 stanzas in alexandrines, faithfully imitated from Tansillo.
The work of Luigi Tansillo (c. 1510-1568), who led a career as a soldier and a poet, had a profound influence on the neo-Petrarchan movement during the Renaissance. His Lagrime di San Pietro, a poem on the theme of the sinner's repentance, appeared in 1560: the adaptation made by Malherbe, a few years before Robert III Estienne, in 1587, was the first masterpiece of the Norman poet.
A fine copy, despite a purple ink stain on a flyleaf.
