DU SOUHAIT (François).

Ɵ Le Bon ange du Roy. Paris, Jacques Rezé, 1599. Booklet in-8, red morocco, double framed with two cold filets, small gilt fleuron at the corners, medallion of foliage in the center, the stems mosaicked in olive green morocco, spine decorated with a small repeated fleur-de-lis, inner lace, edges gilt on marble (Lortic). Extremely rare Parisian edition of this poem to the glory of Henri IV, composed in prose and verse by a gentleman from Champagne who was the secretary of the Duke of Lorraine and tried to translate the Iliad. Printed by Jacques Rezé, bookseller active in Paris from 1594 to 1606, who used for this edition the typographical mark of Pierre Hury (cf. Renouard, p. 312). There exists at the same date a Lyon edition, quoted by Techener, Bibliographie champenoise, n°1276 : it is not known which one appeared before the other. Fine binding by Lortic.
